Brookedale Farms is an "agritainment" business. Our greenhouses open in April, and in the fall we have a popular corn maze (typically open September and October). We are located 2 miles out of Ft. Ashby, West Virginia, on Rt. 46W. Turn onto George Run Rd, cross one lane bridge, bear right at Y, & greenhouses and maze are on the right immediately after Y.


We have a playground and picnic tables, too. Fun family or group outing!

The training provides gardeners with the opportunity to improve their horticultural knowledge and skills and then share their experience with the public through organized volunteer activities. Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs. The program provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities.  

Volunteers serve at thousands of local organizations that:

  • Help children learn to read and provide one-on-one tutoring
  • Mentor troubled teenagers and young mothers
  • Care for premature infants or children with disabilities
  • Help children who have been abused or neglected

​Burlington United Methodist Family Services, Inc. will be celebrating 100 years in October. The agency started out as the Star of Hope Child Refuge in 1913 with one building and three children. There was concern for the homeless children in the area, which moved two men -Dr. F.L. Baker and Mr. F.C. Rollman- to open the children's home in an old farm house on a small tract of land.

The Mineral County Head Start program, in existence for over 40 years, is blended with the county school system’s Pre-K program.  This successful collaboration provides twelve Pre-K Head Start classrooms and three preschool special needs classroom throughout Mineral County.  Classrooms are located in Burlington, Elk Garden, Fountain, New Creek and Wiley Ford Primary Schools, as well as the Frankfort Intermediate School and the Keyser Pre-K Head Start Center.  Certified teachers utilize Creative Curriculum, the WV Early Learning Standards, and Head Start Child Outcomes to guide children’s learning and development.  Along with educational opportunities, the program provides routine health services with hearing, speech and vision screenings and ongoing monitoring by the school nurse.  The program’s support staff assists and support families in meeting their goals and obtaining other needed services in the community.
